Artist Statement:
I've been involved in photography for most of my life while working as a disc-jockey, radio interviewer, TV producer-director, scriptwriter and, most recently -- as a college professor. After years of experience, I try to apply what I've learned as a professional communicator to my work as a photo-artist.
Most forms of communication are most effective when "telling a story." A photographer uses the creative elements of light/shadow, composition, depth, color, etc. to produce an image that may convey more about a subject than what was contained in the original scene. Then, modern technology allows fine-tuning of raw images digitally with similar techniques that have been used in the darkroom for more than a century. And, while inexpensive "point-and-shoot" cameras have made taking a good snapshot almost effortless -- producing a fine, creative photograph involves selecting a worthy subject, then placing the camera in the correct location and choosing the right lens to capture the image at just the right moment.
Moving to the Georgia coast from upstate New York has provided a whole new world of beautiful subjects to photograph. I live in Savannah with my wife Cathy, and we enjoy discovering gorgeous, new coastal vistas every day.
